Receiving a full jazz scholarship, I worked as the teaching assistant to jazz studio professor, Don Coffman. I was the first bassist in the school's jazz-focused doctoral program, during which time I was a member of two ensembles that won Downbeat-awards, the Concert Jazz Band and the Monk/Mingus ensemble. Concert Jazz Band performances with: Wynton Marsalis, Joe Lovano, Bob Mintzer, Maria Schneider, Jimmy Heath, and Clare Fischer.
