The Real Beacon Book is a fake book. And fake books are collections of songs for bands to use at rehearsals and gigs. Each song is in lead-sheet form: typically one page written music, with only the song’s melody and chord symbols, plus any other essential information for a band to 'fake' the song. The most famous fake book is The Real Book, which was a created in the 1970s by Berklee School of Music students for use at school jam sessions and on gigs.

The Real Beacon Book is a collection of classic American repertoire drawn from pop, rock, blues, soul, Latin music, and jazz, selected and arranged to use in class and can be performed by first- and second-year music students at Beacon High School.

Songs with links have their own song page, with the lead sheet and other links to instructional videos for guitar, keyboard, bass, and drums as available.

Songs are also catagorzied by its primary harmonic or chordal make up. Which for generally includes songs
